El Dorado Motorhome owners

I have started this blog as a place for El Dorado Motorhome owners to network together. I am the owner of a 1995 Honorbuilt El Dorado C320 Motorhome. I do not have an owners manual for it and would like to get a copy so anyone with the same model that would be willing to help me out let me know. I am also interested in hearing from owners of other models. Let's share our knowledge and experiance about our motorhomes and create a place where we can have an El Dorado family of owners. Since the company no longer exists, all we have is each other so lets get the advise and shared knowledge rolling in.

  1. Terry;Just stumbled on your blog here.Ive got a 96 Eldorado in pretty good shape like yours.I have single rear wheels though. Its 30ft and Im sure there are tons of similarities.Ive gone through mine pretty thouroughly and have taken quite a few long trips with my wife in it with no problems at all (Darien Ct to Key West a couple of times).Bummer there out of business and an even bigger bummer is I believe there were only a handful made in 96 before they closed their doors.I have a lot of literature and what I believe would be a manual/brochure of some sort that Im happy to copy and mail to you.Get in touch and we'll trade a few RV $tories.....Jordan

  4. This Eldorado is very comfortable and very spacious as well. It is really to bad no one uses this floor plan anymore. It is a great floor plan.

  5. Well it is time to upgrade the taillights on my baby. The Barman type 91 tail lights put on in 1995 are faded and I have trouble with the bulbs making contact. The problem is the angle that the rear bulkhead has. Problem solved. Barman makes an angled base thay fits the bargman type 92 taillight that is currently in use by many RV manufacturers. Only bummer is I would really like to have used type 86 with LED bulbs. I will post before and after photos soon. Terry.

  6. My wife and I just bought a 1981 El Dorado 25' Class "C" on a Ford E-350 Frame. It has some small issues but we are working our way through them.
It came with a BUNCH of manuals and other information that I was soooo happy to have. It is at the dealer getting the generator serviced, awning work and a few other things done now. If you need me to I can make a list of what manuals I have and post them.

    14. Please add me to this list. Just purchased a 1989 EMC 28ft Class A on the E350 Chassis. Researching and I've found some really interesting things. Chassis manufacture date for my RV was February 1989. El Dorado Motor Company filed bankruptcy in March of 1989, and the completion date for my RV shows July 1989. I feel like I bought Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time" Cadillac, so I could imagine parts / manuals / references are hard to find. The Coachmen RVs appear to be the closest to style, trim, and floor plans that I could find. I have a couple of helpful cross references that might be useful. querythequantum@gmail.com

    1. did you get you generator to work? Common problem with the onan 4k is mice like to build a nest inside between the motor and the generator head. When you then try to start the engine, the nest breaks the stator pickup off. Only way to fix it is to pull it out, split the 2 halves and replace the pickup arm. May also want to change the condensor and the spark plugs.

  16. I'm thinking of buying a 1994 El Dorado that has 30,000 miles on it but needs repairs. The roof has several leaks. The front top corner of the drivers side roof was damaged and water had gotten in at one time. It's been kept under a car port so no more water damage, but the inside is very dirty with mice droppings, rotten wood around the skylight in the bathroom, and a droopy ceiling liner in the bedroom. I'm thinking of getting it having the roof completely re-done, gut out all the furniture and carpet. In your opinion, how much would this RV be worth?

My 1996 30ft class C has both ?.The sticker on the door is 11,400 and the aluminum plate inside the coach has 12,500 ?.Wondering is anybody else has these two weight ratings ?

  22. Hi, We bought a 19996 a few months ago. Any info on how the tab axle works would be appreciated. (Now have a slight dent when tried to turn in tight spot and the home went the other way). Is the tab axle supposed to be on when driving and off when in tight spot? We do need more practice. Also one of the jacks is bent.Robin, my husband says as you are looking at the engine, on the left side behind the air intake, kind of towards the back is the dip stick (yellow). Very tight area. Hope you have already found that by now. We are very excited about our new old baby. So glad I happened onto this sight.

  39. not a very active site but I just happen to be at my pc to see your post. The coach would have to be in very good shape to command 6k. I mean no delimitation (look very closely for this)and all (or most) systems should be operational. Almost certainly needs tires (Michelins are best but close to 200 each plus a spare)and belts and hoses and probably all fluids changed just so you know they're all good. Not sure about brakes but they should be checked.I would crawl underneath it and spend a good amount of time looking at "everything" . Take pix so you don't have to go back under it . I have a 30ft 1996 Eldorado and really enjoy it but spend a ton of time working on it and a ton of money having work done that I can't do (electrical, tranny replacement etc). If it has the E40D tranny the front seal "will" leak and tranny will have to come out to replace it. The 460 is an awesome engine but expect 8mpg while traveling. You can call me and Ill talk more about it but no matter what you pay high or low you will be upside-down in your investment. Having said all this once its up to speed with reliability you won't have a big loan and will enjoy the coach. Once you understand this you will understand the game of RVing. Its not a cheap way to travel but has its other attractions .Hope this helps,Jordan

  41. Anyone have a manual for a 1976 Ford El darado RV>

    ReplyDelete
  42. I may have a manual or sections of an original one that relates to my 1996.Most RV systems are the same or very similar so you can find how each one works online very easily. If I can dig it up I will post back here. One tip that you may or may not know. Your coach needs to be driven in a regular basis to keep it running correctly. Sitting not being used is the absolute worst thing you can do . Moisture management is the 2nd most important thing. These things breath with hot and cold expansion and they will leak like theres no tomorrow and rot quickly. I swear its designed into them but they need to be checked very very closely in all corners for any type o0f leak which should be dealt with immediately. Delamination will destroy the value of your coach and cost you a bundle to repair and still will be a known water leak repair which will be a bargaining chip for the next buyer.Use them and dont let them leak or build op moisture. Mice are as bad as the other two problems I mentioned....

  61. Wife and I bought a 1992 E250 Eldorado conversion van about 3 years ago. Nice looking though it does not go up hills very well at all. It has the 351 Windsor engine in it. Runs good though just it does not like climbing hill, and mountain areas? forget it.. It slows WAY down. Anyway, she loves it, me, not so much lol. I find it rather uncomfortable to sleep in since it has low head room back there when the bed is made out. We have also replaced the A/C unit on the top and also the engine compartment unit as well since it was the old refrigerant type and didn't work anyway. We also placed the fresh water tank pump as it developed a leak. Bypassed the water heater since we never use it anyway and also removed the refrigerator since it didn't work all that well either. We now use that space for storage. And today I pulled the fresh water tank out because we were getting wet spots on the carpet so wanted to find the leak. turned out, the leak is from a small bad spot on the bottom of the tank so I ordered a new one. It wasn't cheap lol..Was going to just patch the old one but looking at it closer, it had developed cracks along the bends at the bottom, which were not leaking there however, figured it may not be long before it did split open. We use the upper, above the cab, section for storage instead of sleeping since all our kids are gone and grown. Anyway, all in all, it's not a bad little RV unit.Just wish it was more comfortable to sleep in lol.. The wife has no trouble sleeping in it. And the little generator works great!! Has a lot more power than I thought it would have though. 5.8KW .. Anyway, saw this site and thought, why not, just write a little bit and say hello to those who may still be around at times..

    1. Hi, we just purchased the same camper, it was listed as a 92 but is in fact a 91. Agree with you on the tired motor, too small for the vehicle. We haven't tried it out yet as I just picked up the tag this week. Everything is working so far, only thing I haven't tried is the stow.

  73. I just purchased a 21' El Dorado 1976 with an Ford Econoline 460 7.5 Having a hard time finding correct parts. Any manuals would help or any websites. In the process of draining fuel from both tanks, install new fuel filters (2 off each tank and 1 to carburetor). Dogs and stalls from a stop. New air filter already, probably install new plugs too.

  76. I just purchased a 1995 Ford Eldorado and I cannot seem to find the house batteries I noticed if there are two batteries under the hood but other than that I cannot find any other batteries anywhere? I did happen to notice that there are what looks to be two metal boxes underneath where the generator is on the driver side, but I can't get a good look to see if those are actually batteries in there I do recall feeling the wires in the top of them but still I need to get like a mirror or something to see what is actually in there also where what is the switch that I keep seeing on the driver side door next to the footboard as you're stepping in there's a metal switch and there's nothing that says what it does or what but it doesn't do anything when I flip it so does anyone know what that is?

    1. House batteries located just behind driver seat under the chassis

    2. The switch is for switching between 12v or 120v landline so it sits in about a 7 o'clock position when you not plugged in to 120v for operating 12v self contain mode then off pos is about 4 to 3 o'clock position for when you plug in landline or 120v for operating that stuff and charging the 12v system at the same time

  83. Hi Folks,

Just found a one-owner 30foot Class C El Dorado with the 460 Ford engine & AT, with 50,000 original miles out of a TX estate sale.
(The tires are even "relatively new" = 22 months old.)

I, too, am looking for the owner's manual IF anyone has one.
(I will HAPPILY pay to get a GOOD Xerox copy of the factory manual.)

    HAPPY RVing to all,

  88. Hello Eldorado bloggers. I have a late 1995, 32ft Eldorado Model C310, Class C on an E350 cutaway chassis. I have replaced the fuel pump twice. Not fun. It's located in the top of the gas tank that has to be dropped. Never again. I plan to cut an access hatch in the floor before I ever have to replace the fuel pump again. Before I cut the floor, I need to know why there is slight hump in the floor between the bathroom and shower. Is the hump used as a chase for electrical wiring or maybe for plumbing piping or maybe as a relatively flat 1" high duct to transfer hot air from the heater duct under the shower to heat the bathroom? If any of you Eldorado E350 experts know the answer, please let me know. Thanks. Evan..........greatgetaways@cox.net

  89. I replaced a dry fuel fuel line on my old Eldorado before I sold it.$500 later but I wasnt spilling gas everywhere after a fill up.My guess is you are right that the hump is wiring as the heating system is really only flrxible foil ductwork that comes out of vents in the walls as I remember. There the same as on my 2006 Fleetwood jamboree.I do remember there being a safetey valve of some sort right on top of the tranny. Its right there in front of you when you take the doghouse off.Sometimes thats the culprit if you ever have fuel issues again

  95. HI, I know this is way later than your post - but I am looking at a 96 Eldorado 30 ft, C 295, It looks great, fairly low miles, 45K, price is okay - does anyone have any info they can share that may own one of these? I read way below in comments a problem with the fuel line, anyone have any tips/tricks, any info they can share about a class C Eldorado? I'm thinking of buying one so I may travel with my pets and keep them comfortable. I just want to made sure I'm not off-track or making a bad decision? any ideas/suggestions/tips? thank you in advance!!

Any problems or issues to share? also, has anyone purchased new tires? recommendations? I'm thinking to be safe I should purchase new tires/alignment to get off to a good start - its a 1996 with mastercraft courser lt225/75r16 tires so I'm thinking they are the original ones? Please keep this blog up and running - this would be my 1st rv so want to share all info and vice versa, thanks
